About the Center

The Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough Center on Professionalism was created in 1999 with a gift from the firm's partners. Its purpose is to promote the ideals of professionalism in the practice of law and the operation of the judicial system by serving as a resource in the research and dissemination of information and ideas, as well as developing and promoting initiatives that further those ideals. The Center has assisted in the improvement of professionalism education and training at the USC School of Law, developed a website to provide extensive information concerning professionalism initiatives, hosted two national symposia, and begun empirical research on professionalism issues, particularly mentoring programs. Six areas of focus, consistent with the mission of the Center, include Professional Education, Conferences, Student Education, Website Communication, and Research.
